The Importance of Smiles

Today I had to get two fillings at the dentist. Man, I forgot what it feels like. The pain wasn’t really that bad, and I totally closed my eyes for the needle part since I despise them so much, but it has been the aftermath of the appointment that I’ve been thinking about.

Since they had to numb me up to do it all, the whole left side of my face is droopy and all. When I try to smile, of course, I can only smile halfway – one side only. After my little appointment I had to go out in public to run a couple of errands, and it really sucked, because I couldn’t do anything about my inability to smile without looking super stupid. I sort of explained it to one or two people, and wanted to laugh and smile with them, but then I just got madder because I couldn’t.

So they talk about if you at least make yourself smile, you’ll start to feel happier. I totally agree with that now. Before my appointment I was in a great mood totally enjoying the first day of summer. Now, I feel really mad at just about anything that I have to deal with, be it the computer, my mom, etc. Then I feel worse for being so mad!

So make an effort to smile. It really helps your mood…and today I’m a prime example of what happens when you DON’T smile. Enjoy your first evening of summer!

That’s a good goal for life: don’t go a single day without smiling.
