Reload and PCMCIA Card Reader

Just finished up reloading my laptop. Boy, it gets so much easier and faster with every time I do it. I finally got rid of my dormant Linux partition…since I don’t see myself wanting that again in the near future. This may be useless information, but since it’s summer and I’m bored, I’m going to make a list of everything I installed this time. Everything is freeware except the starred items:

    Windows XP (clean OEM) *
    AVG 7.5 Free (mal-ware protection)
    Bit Che (torrent searcher)
    CDBurnerXP Pro 3
    CutePDF (pdf creator)
    Daemon Tools (disc image stuff)
    DivX and XVid Codecs
    Finale 2006 (music composition) *
    Microsoft Office 2007 *
    Firefox
    Picasa2 (Google’s picture manager)
    UltraVNC Viewer
    WinRAR
    Audacity (audio recording)
    Windows Media Player 11
    Foldershare (file sync utility)

In my opinion those are all the greatest pieces of software in their fields. Along with 40 gigs of music, pictures, and other documents, there remains a comfortable 26 gigs of free space. Any questions? Whatever, I can’t imagine anyone honestly caring what I do with my computer. 🙂

In addition, my new Olympus xD PCMCIA card reader came in the mail today. It’s just a card that gives me a built in card reader in the side of my laptop…saves a lot of hassle with extra cables and camera software by completely bypassing the camera when transferring stuff onto the computer. TIP – The reader would of cost $50 new, but I got a factory refurbished one through Olympus on eBay…I won the auction for $2… 96% off the original price!

So yeah, those have been my ventures in the technology world today! Have a good one!

Happy Father’s Day, Drums and College

A big old happy Father’s Day to all you out there…especially those of you that are fathers!

So I’ve been really interested transcribing music lately. This isn’t in the sense of transcribing things from guitar to piano, but in the sense of listening to a song and writing down the music…in notation. I really want to do a lot of it to examine various drummers and their styles, first mostly of the rock genre, but then to move on and challenge myself to do some transcribing of genres that I’m pretty unfamiliar with…such as latin and jazz. I’m also thinking about doing a few full albums, such as Busted Stuff by the Dave Matthews Band, Crash of ’47 by Atomship, Anchor Drops by Umphrey’s McGee, or any other really impressive CD drum-wise. THEN, once I’ve written the music down, I’ll learn to play it all! YEAH!

I’ve been contemplating college more and more recently. My two main priorities for selecting a school are a) Percussion program and b) financial situation. After school got out for summer I took a campus tour of Washburn, which was more impressive than I expected it to be. I always knew the average, “Yeah, it’s Washburn,” attitude, and was really surprised by the dorms, the fitness center, and some of the newer classrooms. I also met with Dr. Morgan, the percussion instructor, who I already know. At the beginning of July, my family and I are going to venture down south to check out the University of North Texas. Yeah, this place is 28,000 students huge, so I have no idea how I’ll feel about it since I’ve never been around a really big school like that. However, UNT has one of the top percussion programs in the nation. Another couple of place I want to check out are North Colorado, University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) and Berklee.

As of late, there is a woman at my church who is very eager for me to check out Yale. Ha, Ivy League is for those with money. Ha, I just looked up their percussion degrees: solo marimba/percussion, orchestral percussion, and contemporary chamber music. No thanks, Yale!

Anyway – I still have a lot of time to be deciding I guess.

The Grudge (by Tool) – Closing Drum Solo

This is the last thirty seconds of The Grudge by Tool…which pretty much the drum set solo of the song. I first transcribed it…and have now made a video. Let me know what you think!

New Theme and Spectral Harmony

Like the new look?

Check out “Spectral Harmony.” It’s the new little project that Kyle, James and I are starting. I don’t know what we might or might not accomplish, but we had a lot of fun jamming today.

Donations Welcome!

Haha yes! I finally got donation links up and working on my drumline page. This is because I’ve had a large increase in interest in my cadences and am regretting not charging for them…though nobody would probably want them if I truly charged for them…so solution? DONATIONS!

I’m going to church camp until Wednesday night, so it might be nice to come back to some money you’ve all donated 😉

Tennis; Congrats Cole; Shrek the Third

I went and played tennis with Billy on Friday night! (Sorry this is a delayed post.) I hadn’t played tennis in a year…ever since last season ended. Surprisingly I did pretty well, and thanks to Billy and his help I’ll probably be back for next season better than I left a year ago. Hopefully Bass will hire me up as doubles #1. I dunno though, I’ll have to do some working!

Congratulations to Cole for getting his project working awesomely. He hasn’t posted about it yet on his blog, so I’ll link there once he does and leave the details to him (since it’s his project).

Amy and I saw Shrek the Third last night, and it was pretty dang funny. I don’t think it was as hysterical as the first one, but it was better than the second one. The plot has some interesting and funny twists. Go see it now! We have yet to make it to Spiderman 3 or POTC 3. Are these good?

Thats my compact update for the day. Enjoy your uncommercialized Memorial Day?
