A New Year

Happy new year everyone! Sorry its been a couple days since an update, but the time has come.

Yesterday, I actually did something…actually…A LOT. First, at 10.00am I picked up Amy, and she came over, to meet my cousins and everyone. It was like a typical family get together, plus Amy!, which was totally awesome. I think I had more fun than if she hadn’t of been there. It was especially funny, becuase my youngest cousin that is like 4 or 5, really liked Amy, and ended up following her around everywhere the rest of the day.

Anyway at 4.00pm-ish, I took Amy home, and then went to a wedding at my church. I think it was the first new years eve wedding I’ve ever been to. After the wedding, I joined Amy again, but this time at her house, from 7pm till 12.45am-ish. I know, really off my sleep schedule!!……I’m a bad boy. So while at Amy’s we played board games, talked, ate and did some fireworks. So that was all really fun. We also came up with some resolutions…at least Amy and I did…I didn’t really hear anyone else’s. -)

So this is pretty much the first time I’ve really decided to have a resolution. Maybe it is becuase as I get older and more mature? haha, I seem to notice more things about me that could be better. So here is what I have come up with.

  1. Rely on the computer less…and get off my butt. This is a big one for me…probably the biggest. I people don’t realize…I use the computer for blogging, helping people on the Pearl Drummers Forum, listening to all my music, playing music for playing the drums to, watching online drum lessons, school work, geek stuff (like clicking through all me favorite links, ten times a day, checking for the slightest update anywhere), etc. I feel tethered down by the computer. Like sometimes my mom will ask if I want to go over to the neighbor’s or something and I usually refuse, becuase I’m going pointless stuff on the computer.
  2. Gain some muscle and weight. Yes, I’m unhealthily underweight, according to my doctor. And no matter how much you girls out there wish you could weigh what I weigh or whatever, stop whishing….becuase it is not good. According to my doctor, I could comfortably gain twenty to thirty pounds, and still end up in the mid range weight for my height. So, going along with my first resolution, I’m going to try to get off my butt, away from the computer or whatever, and workout a bit, eat a healthy snack, etc. I need to gain weight! I feel like I could fly away in a big wind gust or something!
  3. Overall, treat everyone better. I realize that sometimes I’m a bit harsh (when I’m not playing around), and a bit demanding sometimes. I’m going to try to just be nicer, and go with the flow of things before setting my mind to what I think should happen. I’m sure some people know what it’s like to be in front of a “demanding or urging David” and I always regret being like that. So it’s a resolution.
  4. Do everything possible to get my brother back. Don’t really want to explain this…but a few people may know what I’m talking about. Contact me if you REALLY want to know.

So those are my resolutions. I hope everyone has a great 2006, full of joy and prosperity!

Thanks for reading!

Ideas for Links

First off, Happy New Years everyone! Here is my full New Years post on my personal blog…

I noticed that I got the most traffic to my personal blog the day that I posted about it on this site. So, I don’t want to have to post a link to it everyday, so I need a good way to broadcast that I have another (just as important) blog. I already have a couple ideas, but need input.

  1. Only have a link to my personal blog in the right side menus and have a seperate page tab at the top^ to have all my links on.
  2. Somehow have a page tab at the top of the page, that says “personal”, linking to my personal blog.

I personally like number 1 better….but I would like everyones opinions. Please!

Thanks everyone and have a fun and safe New Years.

Wasting the Hours

I can’t believe how much I didn’t do today:

  1. Go to Cole’s
  2. Go work down at the church
  3. Plow through a ton of Algebra
  4. Plow through a ton of History
  5. Get dressed

The Cole plan, with Billy, fell through becuase Cole wasn’t feeling good. I didn’t go work at the church, becuase I had thought that I was going to Cole’s. I did however do a section and half of the Algebra 2. Which felt good. I have been in my “PJs” since 10.00pm last night.

However today I did manage to finish The Da Vinci Code which was totally awesome! It leaves me thinking and I posted about it on my general site. I was suprised many times throughout the book. The storyline was just amazing.

What I don’t believe is my own semi-addiction to the computer. I probably spent two hours today, pointlessly clicking around on the links I usually check: Amy’s Xanga, Billy’s Site, Cole’s Site, the Pearl Drummers Forum, etc. Yes, when I first sat down there were updates and new things to be seen, but when I had seen everything, I couldn’t get up. I proceeded to reclick everything many, many times, seeing nothing new, feeling a sense of “What am I doing? Find something else to do!” But I didn’t listen to myself.

Another thing that seems to fascinate me in the department of wasting time on the computer, is that nice little counter I have at the bottom of my general blog. Ever since about 85 visitors, I’ve been checking on it regularly. More than regularly actually…everytime I sit down, and everytime I sift through my favorite links. I was really excited when I had gotten 100 unique visitors, and now I check and see 113……113……OH….114!. Then when I wake up and check in the morning, I’m either semi-satisfied to see a couple hits, or greatly disappointed to not see new viewers.

This brings me to my new years resolution. This will most likely be something about getting off my butt more, doing less with the computer, and reading more. I really want to get away from this dang computer…and yet I sit here doing my daily update! Just like last night! On my butt again! Argh!

Today has been a waste, besides finishing The Da Vinci Code.

Well, there is always tomorrow to make up for it.

Time With Friends

This morning started out at 7.30 for structure, with CNN news and my cell phone alarm. I arose, and from about 7.45 till 9.00 I read The Da Vinci Code, which is getting VERY good. From what I’ve heard from friends it sounds like its going to get MUCH more crazy…but I already think its an amazing book.

Speaking of friends, I got together with Cole, Amy, Billy, Betsy, and Janae, at Cole’s house today. It was totally awesomely fun. We played some pool, gave each other presents, played two different board games, watched March of the Penguins (which was terribly boring), and ate some food. It was quite enjoyable. I really wish I could spend hours upon hours with my friends, becuase they’re all so awesome and I have a much brighter day when I get to hang out with any of them.

Before our little get-together, I spent time wrapping everyone’s presents. I went all out this year. I got Amy a back massager, a candle, a discount card, and home-made hangers. I gave Janae pink lemonade mix, home-made hangers, and a discount card. Betsy got a 4lb tub of animal crackers (74 servings!), home-made hangers, and a discount card. I gave Best Buy gift cards and discount cards to both Cole and Billy. I felt like Santa! Twas pretty cool.

Looks like I’ll spending the evening either working on my sites with Cole, reading, or doing Algebra 2. Luckily I found out from Betsy that I’m not behind on the Algebra……tough stuff!

Thanks for reading!

People Change

Today was a busy one. This morning I spent my time working on this blog, and my other blog. Actually, mostly on the other one. I found this nice new theme, that I’ll be using now, unless I get a suprise gift from someone -) . I also updated the picture page, adding a couple galleries, fixing links, and adding a couple new features. Quite easy stuff that I had been trying to get around to for a while.

Here is the big story for the day:

It had been 2 years since I had seen my mom’s brother’s family. They live in KCMO and hadn’t been to visit since December of 2003. Now, I’ll tell you that I was quite worried about what the visit would bring. My mother had only talked with her brother (my uncle, if you’re dumb), twice in the past two years…last Christmas, and a few days ago. Last year we heard that Sara, my cousin thats the same age as me, was not doing well in school. She was considering dropping out and being home schooled, or just not worry about education. We had also heard that my aunt was working for some home security alarm company, answering desperate phonecalls from distressed customers, and that my uncle was driving a Hills pet food delivery truck. So I wasn’t thinking to highly of my relatives.

When the phone rang a few days ago, in happened to be my uncle again. And this time things were a bit better, but not really. Sara, though had “gone goth”, dying her hair reddish purple, and black…she’s originally blonde! My aunt still had her job, but my uncle was having terrible back problems. Something like a shattered disc in his spine, sending pain to his feet, legs, back, and neck.

Low and behold they arrived at my house at about three today. And, to my suprise, Sara didn’t look bad with dark red hair, and my uncle wasn’t in a wheelchair. All seemed not-so-bad. I hadn’t been looking forward to spending to afternoon with everyone, becuase I was expecting it to be awkward. But…

The afternoon was actually quite good. We ate, laughed, and talked about all sorts of things…there is a LOT to catch up on when you haven’t talked for two years! Various topics included:

  • The numerous idiots that my aunt deals with where she does hotline customer service
  • The music that Sara and Cody listen to
  • My nuclear families lives
  • My uncles dog, “Chow Chow”….guess what breed? – Thats right!! Chow!
  • My brothers band
  • My uncles back situation
  • Memories from the good old days
  • Etc.

We talked and laughed TONS. I guess I felt worried about things, becuase the last time everyone had really talked was back in March of 2003, when my grandma died. Then with the phone calls I mentioned, things just didn’t seem promising, but I was very wrong. It was all good.

Anywas, on another note, I’m about halfway through The Da Vinci Code. Its getting very very interesting with all the different theories about who Jesus really was. I feel a bit guilty though, becuase it goes against a lot about what I’ve learned at church and stuff. But, it is plentiful evidence to support these new ideas. I guess I’ll decide what I really believe when I’m done with the book, and know the rest of the story.

Did some more Alebra 2 today, which is a bit frustrating. I wish I didn’t have to do it all alone over my Christmas break -( .

Thats my life for the day.

‘Till next time.

Working on pictures, drums, etc.

I’ve spent the last hour making the picture page MUCH cleaner…and added the dance photos, and some other things. Now, from the picture page you can
a) Click the link to see the pictures
b) See when the pictures were updated
c) Click a link to search for posts that include anything related to the pictures.

Pretty cool I must say. Also, I fixed the “Back to picture page” link in each of the galleries.

Also, the drum sample that was up, has changed. Before it had all the echo-ish effects, which were cool, but just weren’t justifide to apply to a drum solo. So I found the clip I had before I added the effects, and uploaded that in place of the nasty one. So you may want to give it another listen, because things are much clearer now.

The First Personal Post

Alright, this blog is going to be a personal supplement to my current blog at http://wingerspoon.afraid.org.

So to start off, Christmas this year, hasn’t really felt like Christmas. With only one grandparent left, and extended family not really acting as extended family, things just don’t seem right. Also, becuase mom hasn’t had a part time job (she is subbing right now as a para), and dad isn’t working two jobs like he used to, the pile under the tree this year wasn’t much of a pile. I received a whopping:

  • Pair of slippers
  • Desk Dartboard (kinda a gag gift)
  • Gloves -that I sorta don’t need
  • A stained glass picture thing thats quite nice, in honor of my Eagle Rank acheivement
  • A gift certificate to Supersonic Music (perhaps my favorite gift)
  • The picture of the Drumline from Neewollah framed all pretty
  • hmmm

I guess if you count some drum stuff I got back at a Thanksgiving sale, that I paid for mostly, then I faired OK. And of course, its ALL about the material possesions here -) .

So today was filled with much adventure. I awoke by alarm at 7.30, because I quite frankly felt I needed some structure over the holidays. And so I spend my first hour awake eating, and then sitting down and doing some Algebra compression. Ohh yes. If you’ve read my other blog, I’ve mentioned this. Myself and a couple friends decided, halfway through the first semester, that we would finish up the rest of Algebra 2 (three qtrs worth) in the remaining 8 weeks. We are crazy. And we have until January 8th to be finished or something. One chapter left…yes.

After the Algebra, I called Amy, waking her up, and we talked drowsily about Christmas, etc. It was very nice. After this I talked to Betsy online…about something that everyone will know about on Wednesday, at Coles, something very very good. After that I headed out to go shopping with my parents. We hit up Sam’s, Best Buy, and Barnes and Noble. My christmas shopping is done -) . Its actually for a get-together on Wednesday…I’m not THAT late.

When I arrived home, I sat down in a chair. And then Grandma arrived. She stayed for about an hour. Gave us gifts, we have ours. I recieved a $30 Simon Mall giftcard thing. I’m thankful -) .

After Grandma left, I worked on my drumset. I set it up, since it had been in case since band practice last Wednesday. The shells were delighted to get some fresh air, and be played again. I took a different approach and set up my drums a bit differently. Now the two higher toms are centered on the snare, instead of them being to the right of the snare. The ride cymbal is now tucked in closer, which is tons easier to play, and a lot more comfortable. I’m sure my set will look funny from the “loving fans” side, but its a change for the better.

Since working on the drums, I’ve eaten, chatted online, played the drums some, and now sit here, writing my first “personal” blog entry.

Update to come soon day soon.

Thanks for reading.

New Sub Blog

Well, its not really a sub blog, but its my new, second blog. Since I’m feeling like I don’t want to bore technology and percussion enthusiasts with my personal life, I’m making a new blog devoted only to that:

wingerspoon.wordpress.com

Check it out, if you have any interest in my private life!
Thanks.
