Apple Store – Glass Staircases

A unique and eye-catching feature of Apple’s high-profile stores is the glass staircase. The stair design was patented by a team of designers and engineers that was led by Steve Jobs himself.

Actually, I didn’t really find this that impressive…I was just testing the digg.com blog feature. I didn’t even have to visit my own blog to post this, so thats pretty cool. There are actually spiral glass staircases in some Apple stores, which are a bit cooler…but still, they’re just stairs!

Why I’ll Never Drink Alcohal – Teeth Brushing Philosophy

I’m brushing my teeth and I glance at my almost empty cologne bottle. I wonder if I should keep the last drops, so I can savor the smell for a while. Perhaps in the future I’ll think, “Hey, what did that cologne I used to wear in high school smell like?” and I’ll have a way to remember. I’m brushing my canines and I’m thinking about how the nose is the second most sensitive sense of our five, besides sight, and how it has almost the same priority as sight in the brain. The smell of someone will help you think of him/her just as much, if not more, than a picture of them. That’s beside the point…however my though process continues as I move to my molars.
“But what will happen to the cologne as time wears on? Will it lose it’s intensity or get better? Or does it even matter?” Brushing my gums, I suddenly think of wine, and how people claim it gets better with time. So my though process totally leaves the cologne, and now I’m thinking about wine. “So if wine gets better with time, why would someone ever open a bottle? There isn’t a “Best if used by” date to watch for, so you never really need to drink it. And, hey, why drink it now when it will be better in a few years? Why not have it collect some more dust, and then consider it at my 2010 New Years party?”

You see, this is why wine is absolutely stupid. If something is never going to be it’s best, then I’m going to be stuck waiting for it to bestify. That’s totally dumb. The wine ends up sitting on your rack as a way to brag “This was bottled in 1870, and I can’t wait to try it!”…Though you never will. I move to brushing my front teeth. With wine being so dumb that means that things related to it in it’s nuclear family we call alcohal, must be dumb as well. For example, if some kid grows up to be stupid, it’s probably because his parents were stupid. Smart parents have smart kids. There are only few times when this isn’t true. So, considering this example, I can say that all alcohal is absolutely absurd, because I believe wine is absurd. I finish my brushing with my toung and roof of my mouth.
If everything has the potential to effect everything around it, I can then say that having alcohal anywhere near me will make me stupid. I don’t want to be stupid, so I don’t want alcohal anywhere near me, and I’ll never drink it.
That’s today’s teeth brushing philosophy. Thanks for reading!

Benny Greb and a NEW DRUM RECORDING!

I’m really showing Cole up today! Two updates in less than 6 hours!

I was exploring on drummerworld.com and found an awesome video of Benny Greb playing. I had no idea who he was before today, but he is pretty dang awesome!!

I’m nothing compared to him, but I felt like recording some drum playing anyways. I don’t think this clip is very good. I mean, it shows that I’ve improved since the last time I recorded, but I just wasn’t playing very solid today or something. There are a lot of parts that I stumble on and such. Give it a listen anyways. It’s the second one…March 20, 2006.

Hopefully I’ll get a chance to record some more this week, since it’s wintry outside, and I don’t have much else to do.

Thanks for reading!

Linux Lives! Spring Break! ETC!!!!!!!

Hello all. Sorry its been 8 days since my last update. Haha, Cole has updated twice in three days, so I figured I better get to writing.

So Spring Break started off Thursday night with me going to choir at church for the first time in a long time. I’m rejoining as a “choral scholar” which means I get a bit of money for singing every sunday and going to practice every week. It was kinda odd though, the rehersal was just over an hour long, and the first twenty minutes were announcements and chatting that was really necessary. That disappointed me.

Friday night I went to Cole’s house, which was nice, since we hadn’t done anything in a looong time. We put Linux on my laptop, which is amazing! And awesome, and amazing! It’s a bit of a hassle to get going, but I like it a lot better than Windows, AND I get to stop supporting Bill Gates! What more could I ask for? Cole and I also played some xbox, and owned some noobs just like the good ol’ days. haha.

Sunday, I didn’t do much. Just went to church, sang and acolyted there, then came home. I then spent the rest of the day perfecting Linux, playing the drums, playing a bit of xbox, singing a bit, and reading.

This morning I slept until 10. ahhhhh That was very nice. I then went to the church and got paid $50 to set up synchronization between my preists laptop and desktop computers. I guess he wants future service for free, since he paid so much. And I wasn’t even expecting money…so I’m ok with it all.

The rest of break, hopefully is stormy, so I don’t have to go play any tennis. But realistically I’d like to get to play with Billy at Wood Valley or something. That would be pretty cool.

This is a crappy update, and I’m done. So thanks for reading and feel free to comment or something. Thanks!

Time is Flying

Wowzers! Already 6 days since my last post. This past week has been totally crazy for me.

  1. Model UN – I already wrote some about this. Day two was much less boring than day one, so I ended up having a bit of fun. I guess I’ll be doing it all again next year.
  2. Wednesday I went to school, where I didn’t even check in with the teachers of the classes I missed on Monday and Tuesday. Whoopsies. Thats two days of makeup work waiting for me.
  3. Thursday was the ASTA (America String Teachers Association) Orchestra competition. It was really cool. The Topeka Youth Symphony was one of 16 orchestras chosen out of 60 from aronnd the country, and we got to compete with all the others chosen. Thursday morning we boarded tour buses and headed to KCMO. We arrived at the Marriot hotel, stashed our equipment in a couple parlors, and went to lunch, underground a few blocks away. I ate chinese chicken fried rice, and then had Blue Bell chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream for dessert. After lunch, we went back to the hotel, changed into our tuxes, and headed to Music Hall. We (well, not percussionists) warmed up for 30 minutes, and then headed to the stage. We performed our music lineup VERY well, and came away quite satisfied. The rest of the day comprised of a worthless clinic, dinner, seeing the orchestra exhibit show, and riding home. Overall I had a lot of fun, and got to know some new people from the symphony. Before, I had just kind of sat there, and smiled at people when they walked by, and now I know lots of them and can talk to them. Fun fun.
  4. Friday I attended school again…and again didn’t worry about makeup work. So it looks like I’ll have a pile of 3 days worth of makeup. Ohhhhhh yeah.
  5. Voice lesson with Mr Carr after Amy’s voice lesson. I heard Amy’s lesson, and she sounded up. I was amazed. Seriously. She is gooooood. Then she had to leave, and I had my lesson. It looks like I’ll be singing an arrangement of Amazing Grace for Choralier auditions…unless we find something better.
  6. Saturday was the 11th……WHICH = AMY AND I’S 6 MONTH ANNIVERSARY. YEAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. Also on Saturday, the third of the Left Behind books came to me in the mail. From the 89 pages I’ve already read, it’s good.
  8. Lastly for Saturday, I got to go to Amy’s church (First Baptist Church) to see their program “Soon and Very Soon.” It was a conglomoration (spelling?) of the talents of their youth program: puppets, hand bells, choir, solo’s, dancing, clarinet plaing, and marimba playing. We also got fed ham and the BIGGEST potatoes I’ve ever seen. It was all very good, and I’m amazed at Amy’s youth program. I wish we had that that good ol’ Grace Cathedral.
  9. Today (Sunday) was the Youth Symphony’s spring concert. It was like a homecoming show, and it was our best yet. Totally awesome. Anyways, I’m done with that until next fall. I’m going to advertise it to SHHS, becuase we have a lot of good band and orchestra people at school that have never heard of the youth symphony. Soooo yeah.
  10. Taught a drum lesson after the concert, and my student is finally getting somewhat motivated to practice. Thank heavens.

Well that’s been my week. Its a lot…and I left A TON out. These were just the things that stood out in my mind as I was typing. I’m going to go read now. Thanks for reading, as always. Throw me a comment. Thanks. Nighty night.

MUN Day One, Tennis, and Some Moon-Halos

Day one of Model UN was utterly boring. I don’t know if its just me, but I think this year has been a whole lot less lively that previous years. I just don’t remember being as bored as last year as I was today. Maybe things will look up tomorrow. Anyways, a couple humorous happenings:

  1. Our council decided to “table” or postpone discussing a resolution about junk in space until the year 2025. Ha.
  2. Eric, Billy, and I all went to Hardee’s and got our food right away, while the forty other people went to other slow places where they had to wait a long time. Served! Get it?
  3. Cole bought silly string at the dollar tree during lunch break…he still hasn’t decided what to do with it.
  4. Heather threw a chocolate ball into a bed of a truck beside our bus, with a cop right behind the truck. Heather, you’re such a trouble maker. hehe.

So if you actually don’t care at all about MUN, its still pretty fun. I’m just really worried about missing two days of school…ahh. I’ll have a chemistry test and four Spanish 2 quizzes to make up. Wowzers!

With Model UN happening, we arrived at tennis about 45 minutes late, and for the first 45 minutes of actual participation, I wasn’t doing too hot. I think, honestly (not trying to be cocky…just making my point), that there are a lot of people on our team that are not as good as me. I’m probably in the top 5-10 out of 50. But it seems that whenever I get on the court to play someone lower on the player ladder, I do terribly, and usually lose. I then go to the next court and play Billy, and I get more points on him than the other person, even though Billy could beat the other person blindfolded with his back turned. For the most part, this all seems to confuse and frustrate me. I would like to play at that level all the time, which I do 1v1 with anyone that is closer to or higher than my abilities. I think that its probably all about focus and laziness. First, the laziness. Whenever I see someone thats not that good, I think, “Hey, I’ll play you and win!” But then I already have my mind set that I probably won’t have to work hard to beat them. Then I just carry out that mindset, playing very lazily and bad and such, and losing terribly to someone I shouldn’t lose to. Second is focus. Billy and I continued hitting after practice ended today, and we figured out something really cool. He started getting frustrated, and started trying to get really focus on what was happening. So he started commentating to himself as he played. I started doing the same, only in my head. All the sudden, we went from the ruts of fifteen minutes earlier, to tremendous hitting. Wow. Now I know a good way to keep focused!! YEAH! Thanks Billy for the idea!

And finally, moon-halos. Billy called me, and asked me to go look at the moon, to confirm he wasn’t crazy. What I saw, was a sort of lightened ring around the moon, in a perfect circle. I thought “What the heck?” Billy didn’t have an explanation, and neither did my mom or brother. However, my dad did a quick search on the computer and found this great picture, and short explanation of the wonder we beheld. I’m going to watch out for it every night now…

I may report on my second MUN day…I don’t know yet. Anyways, as always, thanks for reading, and feel free to toss a comment.

Well…I’ve consolidated.

I moved all my posts and comments from my other “personal” blog, to here. Everything went fine, except all the comments show up as posts, which is really messy. But oh well, at least they are here eh?

So remove my personal blog from your bookmarks. Just this one now! Like it used to be.

Well, Cole posted earlier today about some really cool iPods that are coming out…rumor has it. But I guess, the page Cole found about it has been shut down becuase of so many hits or something. I can try to describe what I know/think the new iPods will be like:

  1. The whole face is a screen (know)
  2. When you touch the screen the click wheel and stuff shows up on it, and its touch sensitive (think)

Thats all I know/think. But yeah, they look pretty awesome.

Hmm, lets see. This weekend was pretty good. Friday night I went to tennis, which was cool, then pretty much did nothing the rest of the evening. Saturday, I had a Topeka Youth Symphony rehersal, with a pre-competition concert that Amy came to. Then Amy and I went to the mall, and spent half our time trying to figure out what to do. hehe. Then hit up Shakes for some good ice cream, then she had to go home. So that was reeeeeeeeeealllllly fun. Following that escapade, I taught a drum lesson. I’m a bit frustrated with my student, becuase he don’t practice for nothin’. haha. But he is improving, and next week (like our 4th or 5th lesson) we’ll finally be going over eighth notes. Yeah!

Today I went to church, and right now they’re having a series of classes to get confirmed. Since I’m already confirmed, I agreed to teach lesson in a few weeks on the history of our cathedral and the building and stuff. Perhaps a tour and all will be included…depends on how much/what kind of info I put together. After church I ate at Subway with my parents. Then I came home and played the drums for about an hour straight. Then I called Cole, and we fixed a couple things on my computer. And then all the sudden he spoke the words of the century: “Hey, do you want to play a game of Halo?” WHOA – Hadn’t heard that in a loooooooooong time!! Like 4 or 5 months!! Freak out! So I hooked up the XBOX and got things going, and we played online, and I haven’t lost an ounce of my skill!!! Awwwww yeah. Good stuff.

So I’m still staying devoted to my daily reading of the bible, and I’m learning lots! Its really cool stuff…the email I get. I mentioned it last post. I’ve never really sat down and read things day by day, and thought about them, and now I am, and am finding lots of meaning I hadn’t before. I guess another thing besides daily reading that is really helping, is the Bible translation I’m using – The Message: Remix. It takes the original hebrew or whatever language, that would’ve been everyday street language then, and puts it closer to our everyday language, like what we use to talk on the phone. Its a lot more comfortable for daily reading, becuase it puts you past all the thy’s and thou’s and thee’s. I still like the thou’s and stuff, but would much rather sit down and read The Message: Remix for an hour or two at a time.

Check out Billy’s website – yesterday he posted a halarious post about being smart and/or stupid. It was awesome!!!! READ NOW!!!!

Thats about it for now. I guess I’d better get to bed…even though its only 8.00pm. Tomorrow is Model UN, which I’ll report on later. ha. Solving world problems. Hooray!

THERE WAS AN UPDATE…

This is also on my General blog. I think I’m going to consilidate back to just it soon, if I can figure out how to move all the stuff thats on this one. Here is the post:

Hello hello. It’s been a while, has it not? I’m not going to dwell one my not posting stuff, but I’ve just been insanely busy the past couple weeks. I’ll explain at some later time.

Ok, explaining time. ha. Umm.. well first off, Billy will be very happy to hear this, though it won’t get to him before it matters, but I have decided to do tennis this year. Enough of my doubting. I was in the shower a few minutes ago, and started remembering how fun it was. I was pretty good, but I guess I kinda got discouraged with Billy rocking the house. Nothing against him…he is awesome, and I respect that. I now realize that I shouldn’t worry about if I’ve ever got a chance of beating him ever…because, now after 9 months of not playing at all, I realize that I don’t have a chance against him. And thats ok. And I’ll continue looking to him because he is so awesome and loves it. Sorry to talk about you so much Billy, but I have one more thing…an analogy. I have my drums that are number one to me. Billy has his tennis, that’s number one to him. BUT, Billy also has his guitar/bass stuff, which is a second hobby. He is working on it, and quickly improving. I can get back to tennis, and perhaps quickly improve, and have fun with it. That’s now how I’m seeing it.

Sigh, so much to catch up on. I haven’t been writing much lately, mainly because of my mirror writing I was liking for a few days. I wrote in a journal daily, practicing my reverse skills and all, then decided I could write forward a lot easier. So I started doing that. I ended up writing for the past couple weeks, forgetting how easy it was to type like this. I guess I was dumb that way.

I guess it hasn’t been made public that I got Amy a singing valentine on the 14th, because my last update was the 6th. Man a while ago! Anywho, the singing valentine was completely awesome, and the Choraliers did wonderful, and it was awesome, and did I mention…it was awesome? We totally caught Amy off gaurd, and it was a complete suprise for her. Pretty awesome. Which reminds me…

I started voice lessons this week, to get ready for Choralier auditions. Mr. Carr is really cool, and we have very similar voices. We checked my range, and I have three octaves, which is fairly large. He has a couple possibilities in mind for my audition peice, Deep River or Vegabond or something. I haven’t heard them yet, but I guess I will this week, and give them a try, and pick one. This also reminds me of Amy. I’m concerned for her, since she is doubting her audition stuff. I completely believe in her, and know she is awesome. I also completely believe she can rock the house solo, all alone, just her, if she sets her mind to it.

Righto – so I’ve been reading my bible daily, and have been learning lots about God. It’s pretty cool. I’ve sorta “recommited” myself, so I’ve been setting aside time for reading and prayer everyday. Jesus is pretty cool (DUHUHDUHDUHDHUHDUHDUDUDDDUHDUHDUHDD). I found a really cool daily email, that’ll take you through the whole bible in a year, and provides a bit of meditation/study on each day’s verses. Here is the link for the info to subscribe for free.

Well it’s nine sixteen PM, and I’m laying in bed. Sleep calls, I must answer. So this update was long, but it doesn’t even come close to explaining my past couple weeks. There’s always tomorrow. -) Thanks for reading…feel free to comment.
