Guitar Drifting

Time for my weekly video post? Wow a busy week goes by really fast!

This guitarist is awesome! My brother found this video and told me to check it out, and I’m like “WOWzers.” And what is more awesome: he is from Topeka. The technique he is using is called drifting, and he has popularized it and is now on tour, just because his first youtube video was a huge hit!

Scrabble Games and Pictures

Last night (Sunday) I played some good old Scrabble with my folks. It has been well over a year since I’ve played a game like that with them, and it was pretty fun. For the first time in my life, I actually won! Wow, maybe I’ve gotten a lot smarter in the past year or something?

Here is a picture of the board at the end. We actually used all the letters as well!!!!!

After the game I took some time to be creative with the board and letters. I came up with some cool stuff (as least I think so :))

Perhaps my new logo or something? I added a black and white filter just to change it up from the others.

Drum – took time to set up the pieces thinking it might look cool.

And lastly “blog” all stacked up pretty which took a long time. The ugly shadow is intentional!

Looks like this place is evolving into some sort of “photo-blog” eh? Let me know what you think! Thanks!!

Snowy Road Sign

I took this picture at 45th & Tecumseh RD a couple of weeks ago! It’s odd how the ice isn’t “vertical.” It looks lop-sided because the stop sign isn’t straight up/down. Comments?

Picture Makeover

If you click on the picture category in the right side menu (or click here) and observe all the photo posts. I had a bit of free time, so I went back and checked out my posts that contained pictures, and re-did them all, so you can also see them by clicking on the random picture at the bottom of the right side menu to go to my gallery. There are a few problems with the gallery area though. Maybe I’ll fix that up later.

Also, all the pictures are now BIGGER!! Yeehaw!

As always, thanks!!

Complaining is a NO NO

This past weekend was really great. I had some free time to sit back and do some things that I wanted to do. I did all my homework on Friday night like a Super-Nerd, played the drums for a little more than four hours on Saturday, and also got to jam with Billy and James on Sunday (check out the post about that too).

But today was sort of a slap in the face. I realized that Tuesday is:
1. Choraliers Gig – We’re singing at the middle school over lunchtime. Mr Doole enjoys throwing stuff on us sort of last minute, but I guess I should have practiced some this weekend…
2. Meeting for 8th Grade Orientation – On Wednesday, a bunch of 8th graders are coming to hang out at the high school or something, I and volunteered for it. We have a meeting with school administration tomorrow morning figuring it all out.
3. Talent show tryouts – I’ll be trying out with my solo stuff tomorrow (Billy and James and I will be on Wednesday or Thursday). Today I realized I should have practiced my solo more after jamming with James and Billy, but alas, I was taking advantage of my seemingly “easy, laid-back, and stress-free” weekend way too much.

I also realized that the rest of my week will include three tests and a lot of makeup work.

Regardless here comes my main point. What does the title have to do with my story thus-far? Well, I turned out to be in a not-the-greatest mood today. With that mood comes a ton of complaining. I’m guessing no one really heard me, because I wasn’t vocalizing it, but I sure heard a lot of it from all those people suffering from the wretched “Monday Blues.” I’m not pointing any fingers in particular at all, but every Monday I seem to get the vibe from everyone “Ugh I’m tired” “Ugh I didn’t do my homework” “Ugh etc.” It bugs me (but I won’t complain haha)…does it bug you?

So what good does complaining do? Should we complain when we probably can’t change the situation? Should we complain when can’t change ourselves to be better or feel better?

The obvious answer is “No, but it sure feels good to do it.” It feels really good to talk about your frustrations, complain to your teachers, and complain to your friends, because humans generally want to be felt sorry for. Maybe I’m wrong on this (this is where your comments come into play), but I find myself *subconsciously* wanting to be felt sorry for. And I want to change that. I want to eliminate my complaints completely because I’m realizing there is no use for them and they are probably just terrible annoying to those around me. Unsuccessful complaining (perhaps about too much homework) is a waste of time and energy, and yields no results. HEY, it probably even puts you and others in bad moods. Boy! That sounds fun!

Thanks for reading today’s sermon. ha, Comment me and have a good day!

On Our Road to the Talent Show!!

Billy, James and I jammed on Sunday, trying to improve two of our songs that we hope to play at the talent show. Auditions are later this week *crosses fingers*.

Here are the fruits of our labor (please excuse the recording quality, and the mistakes we have). Check em out!

What do YOU want to hear?

Wow, its already been two weeks since my last update…didn’t realize it was that long ago?!

So I find that I’ve been hitting a little bit of a wall in terms of just sitting down and writing on this here blog. I’ve had time, and I even have my “write post” page come up automatically as one of my home pages in Firefox, but I just don’t write. I’ve been told to just sit and write at least 5 or 10 minutes each day, to keep my writing skills improving. You may ask why I might want to do this? I’m not going to become an English teacher or a professional author, but I sure as heck realize the importance of communication. Communication these days is easy as 1-2-3, and typing up a brief blog post is one aspect of it. Key word=brief.

So I’m wondering what the readers of this here blog are thinking? I’ve been trying recently to italicize and bold important phrases of my posts, in order to point out to the reader “Hey, if you don’t want to read word for word, here are the important parts.” I’ve also been trying to do this by using numbered or bulleted lists. But is this necessary?

Do you as a reader, and most like acquaintance or friend of mine, find it interesting to read long-winded posts, or just catch the brief updates that consist of bare-minimum amounts of information?

This issue is always bugging me. “So do they care about the details?” “Should I just say this one sentence and not really add additional support, since they might be turned off by a long paragraph?”

I probably am too conscious about this all anyway. Afterall, Dr Suess said:

“Be who you are and say what you think, because the people that matter don’t mind and the people that mind don’t matter.”

Feedback? I’m itching to see what everyone thinks about this? Thanks for reading! Comment me!

5 Days In 5 Ways

I’m 5 days into this second semester of my junior year of high school. It is 8.50pm, so I’m sitting in my bed, thinking “Hey, I need to write a blog post, because HEY I have soooooooo many people who would like to read about me!! ha!”

School looks good so far. I’m now in Mrs Lauxman’s English class, and she seems cool (both from what I’ve seen and heard). She is one of the younger (a new new this year) teachers who is trying to be a good and cool as possible, unlike many of the older teachers who a) don’t care and are just teaching to reach retirement rewards, b) have gotten caught up in information that they teach that they have forgotten who to be a good teacher, or c) haven’t realized they weren’t really ever good teachers. Of course there are the few older teachers that are awesome…exceptions from the aforementioned characteristics. Anyway.

I spent the 24 of the past 48 hours at a monastery! This was really fun and interesting. As the youth of my church, Grace Cathedral, get ready to head on our pilgrimage to Canterbury England in July, we are doing a few events to get to know each other better, learn more about our “mission,” etc, so we can get the best experience possible from our trip. The retreat this weekend was really cool. Here is a picture of one of the mostastics (aka, nun) that taught us a lot about the monastery as well as pilgrimage, talking to us in a chapel (really big) at the monastery.

The drumline is performing twice this week! First, on Thursday night (Jan 11, 2007) we’re playing at White Concert Hall at the Martin Luther King “Living the Dream” celebration, where all the local drumlines will perform. The show we’re putting on is mostly written by me, with a chunk by Chelsey, our section leader. Our second performance is SPIRIT NIGHT, this Friday (Jan 12, 2007) at the SHHS basketball game! Our biggest/funnest performance of the year. ohhh snaps, some of you people better come see us!

This is probably really nerdy, but I’m reading Benjamin Franklin’s Autobiography. I was introduced to it in (suprise) Mr. Dormer’s English class last semester, and it sounded very interesting. So, yeah…I’ll let everyone know how it turns out.

Life is currently sort of a grab-bag as you can see. Thanks for checking it out! (comment…NOW)

What a Nerd I Am!

I’ve spent last night and most of today (about 5 hours), working on the computer…installing both Ubuntu and a fresh copy of Windows XP. ugh.
