Morals? What are they?

Pepsi Co came to our school this week, and played a big DVD presentation about “Pressure Points.” It was focused on what causes pressure in your life and how to deal with it. Blah blah blah. Anyways, I’ve been thinking this week about some stuff about morals… and you know you want to read on….

Some people seem to think that there are good morals and bad morals. Others say, “Hey! You can’t force your morals on me!” Still others think they all don’t matter. So the questioned that I’m asking is: Is there some kind of defining line? One that says that this is okay and this is wrong? If there is, where is it? And if there isn’t, should there be, and where should it be? Lots of questions…I know.

One thing that tends to get to me are people that are blinded by their own – in my opinion – bad morals. The people that surround themselves with sex, drugs, and other – in my opinion – bad behavior. So what do I do? Write about it here.

For example – I know a girl (you can ask and ask but I won’t tell who) who thinks its all good to be athiest, get high on whatever, and have sex all the time. I think all of this is terrible. For one, she’s not going to a better place. Two, will probably die young. And three, get pregnant in high school? Get a STD?

I probably sound like that stupid Pepsi video, or your mom, or your teen health teacher. But, since I’ve been taught that way, thats what I think. I know for a fact that I won’t ever do drugs, no matter how close they come to me. I also know that I believe in something, and that makes me feel better and lead a better life (not saying those who don’t have bad lives). Last, I know I won’t have sex till I’m married. Thats it and thats all there is to it.

So, is there some way to convey this to people around you? Make it so that they leave you alone about doing girls or drugs? Or how do you try to convince them they’re going to hurt themselves somehow? I sure as heck wish I could…but know I’d look like a goody good, or lose friends, or something might happen if I completely tell them off.

There’s that peer pressure they talk about. I haven’t even come close to any drugs or sex, and I’m feeling it writing this. Like I said – I might lose friends if I told them off…but on second thought…they really aren’t friends of mine if they do “those kinda things.”

I don’t really know what I’m getting at here. Maybe I just wanted to write something worth thinking about.

What do you think?

    wow…
    that was great David…
    seriously…
    I totally agree!!!!

    🙂 have a grrrrreat weekend!! 🙂

  2. Cole Mickens says:

Online discussion simply can’t encompass my opinions on this issue. I agree that in this day and age there is a huge lack of morals, but I AM NOT going to accept someone CATEGORIZING me as “another teenager” that just surfs the internet…

It is possible to be a teenager without: getting stoned, being dumb, having a good time, or having Pepsi tell me how to live my life.

My question is… Amy, David, Me (and our immediate friends) are people with pretty darn good morals and standards and if we weren’t… if we were some punk kids hellbent on drugs and booze… would be give a rats… bottom about that video…

    honestly?

  3. Cole Mickens says:

    btw:

having sex DOES NOT equal STDs…

but don’t get me wrong… I’m in NO way advocating teen or premarital sex…

…I’m just saying that some people need to mind their own damn business and stop forcing their “old-fashioned” morals on us.

Let us figure out whats right and wrong

  4. maggie says:

    right on brutha.

  5. Miranda says:

ha! I found your blog. I couldn’t remember the name…but I found it. Rock on with your morals!

  6. Okay, so that video was the biggest load of shit…
First, they come on in the beginning and say ‘Don’t listen to the corporations kids, they’re EVIL!!!!111ONEONE’
    Hmm…Who is it sponsored by?

    Woah
    PEPSI!

So its like ‘Don’t listen to the corporations…Except us’
    Or better yet
    ‘Don’t drink beer, drink Pepsi!’

But yeah, so the second thing is that they are telling us to basically not watch tv, play video games or listen to music

Number 1: Their video…WAS WORSE THAN MOST OF THE STUFF THATS ON TV
It’s all propaganda bs, turning us all into one person.. That person being the stupid teenager that can’t think for themselves and needs a video made by Pepsi to tell them how to live their lives

Number 2: All three of these things were used to say that you should watch TV, play video games, and listen to music…TO GET RID OF PRESSURE
    I hate that
    Stupid contradictions…Gruff

Number 3: Okay, so they tell us not to listen to music, because its bad and has a horrible image…Yet they come back and PLAY MUSIC VIDEOS to go along with their stuff…Grant it, they played some good music (i.e. Switchfoot and Coldplay) but then they advocate bad music? (i.e. Simple Plan) Doesn’t make any sense
    It’s like…’Don’t listen to music…Unless it’s ours’
That whole presentation was so corporate, it’s not even funny…

    Anyway, so yeah
Those are my two cents about it, but I agree with Mickens
    Look at our group
We aren’t bound to just go screw anyone and get trashed…
The whole video doesn’t even apply to us…
Whether or not you think so…
Having sex does not mean you’ll get pregnant and an STD and DIE!
    It’s just sex kids…
Though I don’t necessarily agree with pre-marital sex…Doesn’t mean you can’t preach to the crowd that does have sex to use protection…

Have sex = Get pregnant = Death

    No sense made there…

Anyway, this comment is getting to long, because I am wayyy too outspoken

    Have fun kids
    -Johnny Nelson

  7. Cole Mickens says:

I have to say that Johnny’s comment was one of the most concise and well put summaries I’ve heard/seen of that movie.

I agree with EVERYTHING in it and I’d like to add that at the end they showed some “good kids that we should all model ourselves after” and one of them said… I like to go running and listen to music . Did I miss something there?

  8. David says:

Other than bashing the video…what else do we have to say?

Johnny’s point about music in the presentation – They played music that applied to what they were talking about. And they were condemning music that sucks. Especially music that “endorses” bad morals.

Like rap (which I don’t consider music) “Yo b*tches, get on da floor.” Or other various types of music that might say, “ahh I’m sad, this is the end, goodbye.” I hate that crap. Go cry to your mom.

Anyways what do you guys have to say about morals…instead of the Pepsi video?

    David

  9. Cole Mickens says:

    lmfao.

my opinion is the same it has ALWAYS been.

some people will make bad decisions… some more than others… and I will always try to make the best decisions for ME. not what pepsi or SOCIETY wants me to do

  10. Matt says:

wow, i wish i read this earlier

…sry david but i have to comment on the video

honestly i didn’t see ne thing wrong with it, it is like ne thing else this school does to try to teach us something tells us wat to do and will mix up our messages when they tell us to do the stuff they just said not to do….

idk how u guys got to much on the sex part of it, i must’ve not been paying attention at that time, but we all know the concequences of our actions and we are gonna do it ne way but we all know it is our fault no matter what the outcome…..

again it is like ne thing else the school has done for us, crap, and for me it was just time out of a class and gathering with friends…

  11. David says:

    Quote from Matt:
“again it is like ne thing else the school has done for us, crap”

hmm matt…wonder where you would be today (or where you could be) without any of the education you’ve gotten. you can’t deny that.

school is not crap. I’ll sound like some adult here, but school is like a job right now. We just aren’t getting paid with money. We’re getting paid with something that will get us more money later.

    Think about it.

  12. Cole Mickens says:

Sorry david. I don’t agree with you much at all there.

I almost guarentee I will never

    1) use the atomic weight of copper

    2) Use my knowledge of Buddha

    3) Use my ability to graph 3 lines and shade them in

    4) Debate (for a job)

    5) Use Spanish (that I’ve learned from syverson)

    6) Use my knowledge of ITEDS, or some dumb lit story

    7) My ability to cooperate with people that don’t know what they’re doing.

BTW: That is my schedule of my classes for a Monday schedule.

I think what Matt was trying to say was that he didn’t agree with the movie… I don’t think he LITERALLY meant that the school has done NOTHING for us.

I still don’t want Pepsi pushing their ideas on me.

  13. Cole Mickens says:

    BTW:

    Sex doesn’t equal death.

Listening to music to alleviate stress doesn’t equal debt.

Using the computer and building webpages for experience and money doesn’t equal death.

    Being a teenager… doesn’t equal death.

    enjoy

  14. Cole Mickens says:

    Honestly.

WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THAT MOVIE!

I’m struggling with why… not other people maybe… but why _I_ had to sit and have someone drill in crapping, stupid, backward morals into my head.

IF SOMEONE IS A GOOD KID THEN THEY ARE GOING TO MAKE GOOD CHOICE

    IF THEY’RE AREN’T THEN:
    1) They aren’t gonna give a damn about the movie

    2) They obvious… too stupid… to realize what it means.

The ideas should be presented. Some foundations of morals should be suggested… thats it.

No Abstinence only crap. Do you have any idea what the stats are on teen STDS and Pregnancy’s in areas where schools teach protection methods.

A lot of (us/people) know about contraceptives etc… but what about the “stupid” teenagers that 1) Wanna get drunk 2) wanna have sex

I’m not advocating them going and getting drunk and having sex.

I AM advocating at least explaining that that ISN’T healthy… that there are alternatives and that if they HAVE to do it… then do it responsibily.

  15. David says:

    Quote from Cole:
“I’m struggling with why… not other people maybe… but why _I_ had to sit and have someone drill in crapping, stupid, backward morals into my head.”

How is the school supposed to know who is “good” and who is “bad”?

  16. Cole Mickens says:

    um lol…

I had three Long… bottom… posts and THATS the best you could come up with 0_o
