Time is Flying

Wowzers! Already 6 days since my last post. This past week has been totally crazy for me.

  1. Model UN – I already wrote some about this. Day two was much less boring than day one, so I ended up having a bit of fun. I guess I’ll be doing it all again next year.
  2. Wednesday I went to school, where I didn’t even check in with the teachers of the classes I missed on Monday and Tuesday. Whoopsies. Thats two days of makeup work waiting for me.
  3. Thursday was the ASTA (America String Teachers Association) Orchestra competition. It was really cool. The Topeka Youth Symphony was one of 16 orchestras chosen out of 60 from aronnd the country, and we got to compete with all the others chosen. Thursday morning we boarded tour buses and headed to KCMO. We arrived at the Marriot hotel, stashed our equipment in a couple parlors, and went to lunch, underground a few blocks away. I ate chinese chicken fried rice, and then had Blue Bell chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream for dessert. After lunch, we went back to the hotel, changed into our tuxes, and headed to Music Hall. We (well, not percussionists) warmed up for 30 minutes, and then headed to the stage. We performed our music lineup VERY well, and came away quite satisfied. The rest of the day comprised of a worthless clinic, dinner, seeing the orchestra exhibit show, and riding home. Overall I had a lot of fun, and got to know some new people from the symphony. Before, I had just kind of sat there, and smiled at people when they walked by, and now I know lots of them and can talk to them. Fun fun.
  4. Friday I attended school again…and again didn’t worry about makeup work. So it looks like I’ll have a pile of 3 days worth of makeup. Ohhhhhh yeah.
  5. Voice lesson with Mr Carr after Amy’s voice lesson. I heard Amy’s lesson, and she sounded up. I was amazed. Seriously. She is gooooood. Then she had to leave, and I had my lesson. It looks like I’ll be singing an arrangement of Amazing Grace for Choralier auditions…unless we find something better.
  6. Saturday was the 11th……WHICH = AMY AND I’S 6 MONTH ANNIVERSARY. YEAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. Also on Saturday, the third of the Left Behind books came to me in the mail. From the 89 pages I’ve already read, it’s good.
  8. Lastly for Saturday, I got to go to Amy’s church (First Baptist Church) to see their program “Soon and Very Soon.” It was a conglomoration (spelling?) of the talents of their youth program: puppets, hand bells, choir, solo’s, dancing, clarinet plaing, and marimba playing. We also got fed ham and the BIGGEST potatoes I’ve ever seen. It was all very good, and I’m amazed at Amy’s youth program. I wish we had that that good ol’ Grace Cathedral.
  9. Today (Sunday) was the Youth Symphony’s spring concert. It was like a homecoming show, and it was our best yet. Totally awesome. Anyways, I’m done with that until next fall. I’m going to advertise it to SHHS, becuase we have a lot of good band and orchestra people at school that have never heard of the youth symphony. Soooo yeah.
  10. Taught a drum lesson after the concert, and my student is finally getting somewhat motivated to practice. Thank heavens.

Well that’s been my week. Its a lot…and I left A TON out. These were just the things that stood out in my mind as I was typing. I’m going to go read now. Thanks for reading, as always. Throw me a comment. Thanks. Nighty night.

Exciting week. I’m sure you won’t see this but do you want to study CP Chem after school Monday and take the test Tuesday or something?

  2. Katie says:

You’d be suprised how good some of the stuff is, especially if you came. Evensong was really good, confirmation class has been really interesting, and the Wednesday night stuff is good. We all wish you were there, and hope you’ll come back soon.

    Congratulations on your six-month.

This is wierd: i don’t have much to say. My thoughts are but one word: “er…”
Well, maybe two more words: “…oh my.”
    Interpret at will.

  4. Cole Mickens says:

Heather: you spelled weird incorrectly. You did not capitalize I… and yea… thats it.

  5. Heather says:

Oh yeah, Cole? Well, when one makes a reference to back to words that were incorrect and should be corrected, the correct way to do it is to put said words in quotes. For your comment to have been grammatically correct, it should have read, “Heather: you spelled ‘weird’ incorrectly. You did not capitalize ‘I’… and yea… thats it.” But I won’t be picky and correct you for the whole internet to see. Oh, wait… Anyway… Remind me again, what’s that one word you say? Oh yeah- “nextly”- let’s talk about the grammatical accuracy of that word. 😉 Wow, I feel like such a nerd. Oh well. The truth hurts.

  6. Heather says:

I just realized two more flaws with your comment, Cole. First of all, “yea” should be spelled “yeah”. Second of all, “thats” should be “that’s”. Anyway, that’s enough of my ranting for now.

  7. Cole Mickens says:

erm. Heather… you do know I was kidding right 😛

    nextly… oh wait 😛

    lol

  8. Maggie says:

Sounds like fun to me. Our youth symphony concert was cancelled. Central JHigh’s auditorium had a tree through it. Rather ironic.
I assume you’ve read Brave New World? If you haven’t, you should. Read 1984 by Orwell too.
Makeup work is rather annoying. If I may so so myself.
    🙂

  9. Maggie says:

oh yes, i forgot to say…
Mrs. Bushouse, our esteemed director at FS, is retiring.
    THIS YEAR.
I think I’m going to cry.

  10. Heather says:

Cole, of course I know you were kidding, as was I. I just enjoy being over analytical. But yeah… WWPMS??? Hmmm…

  11. Cole Mickens says:

Very good suggestion Maggie. Y’all should read 1984… I’m starting soon.

  12. I_am_Rachael_the_2 says:

yeah so i deffinately got one of these things just to tell you that you totally forgot to mention how awesome me and justines gifts were
    …pfff

  13. Heather says:

It’s 8:00 on a saturday night and I have nothing to do. Hmmm. Why is waiting so stinking hard? It shouldn’t be if you know what’s coming, should it? And it’s even more difficult when you’re not sure what’s coming, or if anything is even coming at all for that matter… Oh well. I’ll go wallow in my impatience now and stop leaving senseless, irrelevant-to-all-but-me comments on David’s blog…
