MUN Day One, Tennis, and Some Moon-Halos

Day one of Model UN was utterly boring. I don’t know if its just me, but I think this year has been a whole lot less lively that previous years. I just don’t remember being as bored as last year as I was today. Maybe things will look up tomorrow. Anyways, a couple humorous happenings:

  1. Our council decided to “table” or postpone discussing a resolution about junk in space until the year 2025. Ha.
  2. Eric, Billy, and I all went to Hardee’s and got our food right away, while the forty other people went to other slow places where they had to wait a long time. Served! Get it?
  3. Cole bought silly string at the dollar tree during lunch break…he still hasn’t decided what to do with it.
  4. Heather threw a chocolate ball into a bed of a truck beside our bus, with a cop right behind the truck. Heather, you’re such a trouble maker. hehe.

So if you actually don’t care at all about MUN, its still pretty fun. I’m just really worried about missing two days of school…ahh. I’ll have a chemistry test and four Spanish 2 quizzes to make up. Wowzers!

With Model UN happening, we arrived at tennis about 45 minutes late, and for the first 45 minutes of actual participation, I wasn’t doing too hot. I think, honestly (not trying to be cocky…just making my point), that there are a lot of people on our team that are not as good as me. I’m probably in the top 5-10 out of 50. But it seems that whenever I get on the court to play someone lower on the player ladder, I do terribly, and usually lose. I then go to the next court and play Billy, and I get more points on him than the other person, even though Billy could beat the other person blindfolded with his back turned. For the most part, this all seems to confuse and frustrate me. I would like to play at that level all the time, which I do 1v1 with anyone that is closer to or higher than my abilities. I think that its probably all about focus and laziness. First, the laziness. Whenever I see someone thats not that good, I think, “Hey, I’ll play you and win!” But then I already have my mind set that I probably won’t have to work hard to beat them. Then I just carry out that mindset, playing very lazily and bad and such, and losing terribly to someone I shouldn’t lose to. Second is focus. Billy and I continued hitting after practice ended today, and we figured out something really cool. He started getting frustrated, and started trying to get really focus on what was happening. So he started commentating to himself as he played. I started doing the same, only in my head. All the sudden, we went from the ruts of fifteen minutes earlier, to tremendous hitting. Wow. Now I know a good way to keep focused!! YEAH! Thanks Billy for the idea!

And finally, moon-halos. Billy called me, and asked me to go look at the moon, to confirm he wasn’t crazy. What I saw, was a sort of lightened ring around the moon, in a perfect circle. I thought “What the heck?” Billy didn’t have an explanation, and neither did my mom or brother. However, my dad did a quick search on the computer and found this great picture, and short explanation of the wonder we beheld. I’m going to watch out for it every night now…

I may report on my second MUN day…I don’t know yet. Anyways, as always, thanks for reading, and feel free to toss a comment.

The silly string is actually called “goofy string”, but anyway…

I also tried to hit the cop car, but I missed by like 5 inches. Darn! I know I’m the biggest troublemaker in all history. I’m always getting in so much trouble! 😉

MUN boredom: welcome to GA II.
We need to “plan” some “fun” for tomorrow…

Whoa. I like the change of decoration David.

  5. Amy says:

That is a good idea about “commentating” for yourself. Sometimes it seems like nothing goes right in a game for me and then I’ll start thinking of random things that have nothing to do with anything. That seems to throw my game for the worst…

    Anyway…

The moon thing… there’s a saying that goes with it…

“Ring around the moon, rain is coming soon!”

  6. Cole Mickens says:

Good job on changing themes david 😉
