People Change

Today was a busy one. This morning I spent my time working on this blog, and my other blog. Actually, mostly on the other one. I found this nice new theme, that I’ll be using now, unless I get a suprise gift from someone -) . I also updated the picture page, adding a couple galleries, fixing links, and adding a couple new features. Quite easy stuff that I had been trying to get around to for a while.

Here is the big story for the day:

It had been 2 years since I had seen my mom’s brother’s family. They live in KCMO and hadn’t been to visit since December of 2003. Now, I’ll tell you that I was quite worried about what the visit would bring. My mother had only talked with her brother (my uncle, if you’re dumb), twice in the past two years…last Christmas, and a few days ago. Last year we heard that Sara, my cousin thats the same age as me, was not doing well in school. She was considering dropping out and being home schooled, or just not worry about education. We had also heard that my aunt was working for some home security alarm company, answering desperate phonecalls from distressed customers, and that my uncle was driving a Hills pet food delivery truck. So I wasn’t thinking to highly of my relatives.

When the phone rang a few days ago, in happened to be my uncle again. And this time things were a bit better, but not really. Sara, though had “gone goth”, dying her hair reddish purple, and black…she’s originally blonde! My aunt still had her job, but my uncle was having terrible back problems. Something like a shattered disc in his spine, sending pain to his feet, legs, back, and neck.

Low and behold they arrived at my house at about three today. And, to my suprise, Sara didn’t look bad with dark red hair, and my uncle wasn’t in a wheelchair. All seemed not-so-bad. I hadn’t been looking forward to spending to afternoon with everyone, becuase I was expecting it to be awkward. But…

The afternoon was actually quite good. We ate, laughed, and talked about all sorts of things…there is a LOT to catch up on when you haven’t talked for two years! Various topics included:

  • The numerous idiots that my aunt deals with where she does hotline customer service
  • The music that Sara and Cody listen to
  • My nuclear families lives
  • My uncles dog, “Chow Chow”….guess what breed? – Thats right!! Chow!
  • My brothers band
  • My uncles back situation
  • Memories from the good old days
  • Etc.

We talked and laughed TONS. I guess I felt worried about things, becuase the last time everyone had really talked was back in March of 2003, when my grandma died. Then with the phone calls I mentioned, things just didn’t seem promising, but I was very wrong. It was all good.

Anywas, on another note, I’m about halfway through The Da Vinci Code. Its getting very very interesting with all the different theories about who Jesus really was. I feel a bit guilty though, becuase it goes against a lot about what I’ve learned at church and stuff. But, it is plentiful evidence to support these new ideas. I guess I’ll decide what I really believe when I’m done with the book, and know the rest of the story.

Did some more Alebra 2 today, which is a bit frustrating. I wish I didn’t have to do it all alone over my Christmas break -( .

Thats my life for the day.

‘Till next time.

Da Vinci Code is a freaking good book. Very philsosophical, very theological. Very interesting. It lead me to read other books that challenge religion, i.e. Stranger in a Strange Land.
But I still come to church every week.

I’m soo glad that everything went well at your family get-together!! It’s weird how things always end up working out in the end…
    Later Gator!
