The Return of the Laptop

The laptop arrived at mi casa yesterday. Woot. Now I’m back to posting this from my comfortable couch, rather than that stupid computer desk.

^^^Oooooh yeah…^^^

So I did some things to get this back up and running…

Luckily before my beautiful laptop’s hard drive failed, I was able to notice some symptons, and got a chance to back up everything I ever wanted. Moosik, pictures, favorites, etc. So that made it very easy to transfer my stuff back yesterday.

So first things first. I turned this thing on for the first, put in the recovery CD, and ran it. That installed Windows XP, drivers, and some random bundled software I really didn’t need. So once that was done, I went to Add/Remove Programs, and got rid of all the junk (AOL, Norton, Photostudio, etc.). Once all these were gone, I rebooted, and was ready to really start getting this thing back to normal.

1) Personal settings – mouse speed, appearance, etc.
2) AVG Free Edition – better than Norton and free.
3) Firefox – my preferred browser
4) AIM – even though I greatly dislike the program, I save money where I can, and this is cheaper than phone service.
5) Filezilla – great FTP program
6) Used Filezilla to transfer my backed up stuff from the xbox.
7) Started up Windows Media Player, because I’m sick (so is my processor) of iTunes, the ultimate resource hog.
8) Picked up a few Windows XP PowerToys. I changed some stuff using Tweak UI, and I picked up a photo resizing utility and a multiple desktop manager.

So thats pretty much all I’ve done, except some customization for Firefox. There is a lot more PowerToys, but I just kinda picked through them for what I wanted.

Anyways, my Toshiba Satellite A15-S127 is back up and running, so I’m happy.

‘Till next time…

stop using Windows Media Player… it sucks… no codecs… use “Media Player Classic” Link

    AVG kicks butt.
