Ringtones Galore

Ever wanted to create your own ringtones for your phone? I definately have. Well…yesterday I found out how you can turn any MP3 into a ringtone for your phone.

I would rate diffuclty for this a 7 out of 10…becuase you need to download two applications.

I found these instructions on the mobiledia forums…posted by “Celtic Dragon”:

Needed Applications:

You’ll need an application to convert the MP3 or CD to a WAV file. We suggest this free tool:
dBpowerAmp Converter 10.1

You’ll also need the PSMPlayer for MMF conversion:
PSMPlayer

Conversion Steps:

1.We’ll assume you’re converting a file named “test.mp3” for this guide. Insert your own file name instead. Run dBpowerAmp and select the “test.mp3” file and click “Open”.

2.Change the drop downs to be “Wave”, “16 Bit (CD)”, “8000 Hz”, and “1 ‘Mono'”.

3.Click “Convert >>” and once it’s completed click “Finished” and you’ll have a file named “test.wav” in the same directory as the MP3 source file (or in the C:\Converted Music\ directory).

4.Open the Windows Sound Recorder (included with Windows) and open the “test.wav” file created in step 3 (if you can’t find Sound Recorder, Start->Run->”sndrec32″->OK).

5.Most phones that support MMF files have a 30k limit. This means you must shorten the ringtone to between 11 and 6 seconds. Some support 30 second MMF files, but start with smaller ones first. To crop the audio clip, use the “Edit” menu to “Delete Before Current Position” or “Delete After Current Position”.

6.Click the “File” menu and select “Save” which will overwrite the “test.wav” file.

7.Run PSMPlayer, click the “File” menu, select “Open”, and select the “test.wav” file.

8.Click the “File” menu, select “Create SMAF”, and select “SMAF 16chords(J-SKY)”.

9.Change the “Max Size (byte)” to 65536 and make sure “Use high quality WAV (8KHz)” is selected, then click “OK” and save the file as “test.mmf”.

Soo, now you have your ringtone, ready for your phone. So you ask: How the heck do I get it on my phone? Here are a few solutions:

1) Email it to your phone – I’m not sure that this works. But you could try it if your phone has email capabilities. Just attach it and your phone should be able to download it.

2) Transfer with a data cable – If you have a data cable and programs or whatever that came with your phone you can now use it to transfer your custom ringtone.

3) If you can’t do 1) or 2) you can email me the file, I’ll transfer it to my brothers phone, send it to you, and you can pay me like $1.50 or whatever it is to send a file.

Now you have your custom ringtone! Joy!

Till next time……..

  1. moogee (that's how my german teacher pronounces my name) says:

i don’t understand a word of that but that’s ok. i’m talking about backpacks anyway. i just got a new backpack and it’s cool beans. our lockers are a waste of space because they are about six inches wide and four feet tall, it’s really stupid. you can fit all of like two textbooks and two binders in there, its reallly dumb. but people don’t think you’re stupid if you use your locker.
i know that i don’t want to get scoliosis, i have enough to buy when i’m thirty. and unlike most people at southwest, i actually carry my backpack on my back, not on my butt.
tell your mom good job with the ice cream deal today. my mom makes a rockin good vanilla, she made some today, you should try it (it REALLY IS JUST PLAIN VANILLA!!!) it’s ok if you didn’t try the ice cream, but it was good anyway. have fun at shhs. haha
